Definition of Amateur
Adopted January 2024
Isle of Man Sport will consider an athlete as an Amateur if they:
Are not registered as, or compete as, a professional within event sanctioned by their National or International Governing Body of Sport OR
Are not contracted to, and receiving a regular salary* from, a team / organisation for the sole purpose of competing for that team / organisation
AND / OR
Are in part time or full time education OR
Have part time or full time jobs that are not directly connected to their sporting participation
*salary – an amount at or above the living wage
Isle of Man Sport Aid commit to reviewing this definition of Amateur at their January meeting each year to ensure it is fit for purpose for both the athletes of the Island and also the Charity Legislation within which it is bound.
